What is the difference between Floor Registers and Air Return Grills/Grates?

Floor registers are primarily designed for floor applications and come equipped with attached steel dampers/lovers at the back, which regulate incoming air flow through ducts and keep them in position. Installation is simple – drop it in, and it fits snugly. These dampers can be easily removed if needed, by unscrewing the tiny screws attached to them. Additionally, holes can be drilled if required for wall installations; Wall mounting clips can be used for wall installation (sold separately).

Air Return Grills are mainly intended for wall applications. And come with pre-drilled holes and matching screws for hassle-free installation into walls. Unlike floor registers, air return grills do not feature attached dampers.
